The Boukhroufa Dam is located at the eastern part of Algeria, 20
km. south of the city of El Tarf near the border of Tunisia. The
dam with the storage capacity of 125 million m will meet the

requirements of the region for the potable water and for the
irrigation of the agricultural lands.

The dam body shall have a crest length of 880 m and a height
of 90 m above the foundation. The dam embankment consists
of a total earth-moving of 7.000.000 m. The project includes a
diversion gallery of 280 m length, 900 m injection galleries,
80.000 m concrete and 30.000 m drilling for the grout curtain.

Construction works proceed at the present for completion of
the diversion gallery and the appurtenant structures in order
to implement the river diversion latest in January 2017, which
is the milestone required for commencement of the dam fill. In
this respect, the upstream cofferdam has been completed, the
diversion gallery and the water intake structure have proceeded
significantly. Furthermore, the rock quarry operation is in progress
with blastings for preparation of the rock material for the dam
embankment.
