Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the seven wonders of the world, among the first
civilization products of humanity. It is known to be located on the Pharos Island
across the Port of Alexandria in Egypt between 285-246 BC. The height of the
lighthouse made of white marble was 117 meters. This height is equal to today’s
40-storey buildings. The fuel for the fire was put in the shaft passing through
the middle and there was a mysterious mirror made of bronze at the top. In some
legends, it is reported that enemy ships were burned by the sunlight reflected by
the mirror. Most of the lighthouse, whose body broke away in an earthquake and
storm in 955 AD, fell to pieces and was destroyed in an earthquake around 1300s.

SHERATON BATUMI HOTEL, built as a replica of this monumental work in Batum
by NUROL CONSTRUCTION, opened in May 2010 as the first five-star international
hotel of Acara Region. In this issue, we would like to share with you our interview
with our new general manager, Apostolos Papatolios, to introduce our hotel better.
