Georgia is located in Southern Caucasia on the eastern shore of Black Sea. Georgia, which had
been one of the Former Soviet Republics, is surrounded by Russia in the North, Azerbaijan
and Armenia in the South and Turkey in the Southwest. The western boundary of the country
is lined by the Black Sea. Georgia is a secular, unitary and a representative democracy with
the President. Georgia is a member of the United Nations, European Council, World Trade
Organization, Black Sea Economic Cooperation and Democratic and Economic Development
Organization. Georgia is still making efforts for NATO membership and to enter the European
Union in the future.
There is a total of 9 regions in Georgia including 2 Sovereign Republics, which have their Head
of Governments (Adjara and Abkhasia). The President of Georgia is Mikhail SAAKASHVILI,
and the Prime Minister is Nikoloz GILAURI. The total population of the country is about 5
million people, where Georgian language is spoken and the currency is Lari.

In this issue of our magazine, we are sharing the conversation, which we have realized with Mr.
Levan VARSHALOMIDZE, the head of Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara
whose ruling center is Batumi and which is located in the soutwestern part of Georgia.
