Çalıkuşu ballet which has been on stage as a sold-out play for the last five years at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet is coming to Istanbul for one evening only. Choreographer Merih Çimenciler says that Çalıkuşu is being put on stage with Nurol’s support and draws attention to the fact that support for arts is very important. Merih Çimenciler made the following remarks as to why the work has been on stage for so long in addition to being a sold-out play: “I narrate this work with our music. That is why the audience enters and becomes part of the ballet. Besides, I am also told by the people that I stage the novel like a motion picture, while they add ‘we watch the novel with our eyes, listen to it with our ears’. For the first time in the history of Turkish ballet a work has been playing as a sold-out show. The reason for this must be the connection the audience has established with ‘Çalıkuşu’
