The first Turkish satellite to be used for military purposes will cost USD 200 millions, and will be commissioned for six years. In the meantime, it should be mentioned that the satellite will povide pictures needed by Turkey in several field of civilian activities like controlling of forest areas, monitoring illegal housing and settlement areas, being able to assess to damage right after a natural disaster occurs, determining crop harvest, and the production of geographical cartographic data. The second important project to be discussed at the Executive Committee meeting to be held on December 18 is the tender for 2,720 vehicles part of which will be the mine resistant ambush protection ‘walking fortresses.’ These vehicles are intended to protect the Turkish Armed Forces from the casualties caused by the most important threat, that is remote-controlled explosives and mines in their fight against the terror organization PKK in the Eastern and the Southeastern parts of Turkey. OTOKAR, FNSS, MAN, BMC, HEMA Industry, MERCEDES BENZ TÜRK and NUROL are competing in the tender.
