Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, have signed a Medium Weight Tank Development Program Agreement for joint tank production. It is stated that the mentioned agreement covers the design, manufacture, integration and certification of 2 prototype medium-weight tanks, the intellectual and industrial property rights of which shall belong to Turkey and Indonesia, as well as manufacturing of 1 hull to be used for mine tests. FNSS Company carrying out manufacturing and exporting activities in Malaysia shall also take part in the project. FNSS shall provide on – the – job training to Indonesian company PT Pindad for the design, technology transfer and prototype manufacturing of a medium weight tank. The company officials who have answered questions of SABAH on this subject have commented as follows” “Our biggest difference is being the leader in the field of exports. We currently have production facilities in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. We are making production and technology transfer. Once we were the learning company but now we became a teaching company”. The officials, who stated that they shall export “light tanks” to Indonesia said “We took away this work from our European competitors. The light tank (Kaplan) is completely a domestic product. The value of our latest contract is 500 million dollars. This is the amount of only one agreement. Our main target market will be the Middle East and Southeast Asia. We are looking after the requirements at various places in Europe,”
