The works in Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge, which is the most important crossing point of Gebze – Orhangazi İzmir Motorway Project that shall decrease the travel time from Istanbul to İzmir from 9 hours to 3,5 hours are going on with full speed. In Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge, which is the fourth biggest suspension bridge of the world with its 1.500 m mid – span, the installation of the tower is completed at 252 meters. It is planned that after completion of the construction works of Gebze – Gemlik section, Izmit Bay Crossing Suspension Bridge shall be opened to traffic by the end of 2015. Total 5.250 personnel are serving and 1.316 construction equipment are operating in the project. While travelling around the Gulf by car by using the existing road was possible in 1 hour 20 minutes and crossing to the other side by ferry was possible in 4560 minutes, it shall decrease to 6 minutes with the planned gulf crossing (12 kilometers).
