The last section of the İzmit Bay Suspension Bridge, the foundation of which was laid in 2013, that is described as the collar of Gulf of İzmit and a key part of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway, which will shorten the travel time between İstanbul and İzmir to 3.5 hours, was installed in a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yıldırım. The bridge, which was announced at the said ceremony by the President to be named after the founder of the Ottoman Empire “Osman Gazi”, is planned to be unveiled before Ramadan. The 40 km section of the highway project, contractorship of which was undertaken by Nurol-Özaltın-Makyol-Astaldi and Göçay companies, between Altınova-Gemlik was also brought into service with the ceremony.
