Upon awarded with the contract for “domestic development and production” project which was tendered by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) under the President’s Office after SSB cancelled its decision for ‘direct purchase’ of the equipment from Germany, the successful tenderer FNSS manufactured Armoured Amphibious Assault Bridge and entered into competition with Germany in an ongoing tender in South Korea. K. Nail Kurt, General Manager and CEO of FNSS, provided a briefing to a group of reporters about SAMUR, its Armored Amphibious Assault Bridge, commenting on the ability of the amphibious bridge to permit armored vehicles to rapidly cross such obstacles as rivers. “We have undertaken this work as a local development project. Germany was the first country to develop this product, and was the only manufacturer back then. When we were awarded the contract by the Presidency of Defence Industries, the Germans told as that they could manufacture it and supply it to us. We turned down their proposal, and advised them that we would develop and manufacture it ourselves. We are now competing with the Germans in this project. We have designed and manufactured our product using local capabilities.”
