A premiere screening has been made of the documentary “Treasures of Troy – A Century of Longing”, which focuses on the archaeological treasures of Troy that were stolen by amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and were taken first to Greece and then to Germany in 1873. Speaking to members of the press before the screening at the Kanyon Shopping Centre, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism, said that the documentary “Treasures of Troy – A Century of Longing” will effectively mark the successful completion of the “2018 Year of Troy”. Noting that the theft of Troy’s treasures had deeply wounded the heart of the region, Bülent Turan, Group Deputy Chairman and Deputy from Çanakkale of the AK Party said that the lasting impact of the documentary had given them the opportunity to recount the story of the theft of the treasures through a cinematic experience. Nihal Ağırbaş, the producer and director of the documentary, said “The scenario was penned based on Schliemann’s memoirs, excavation notes, books and the views of the academicians we consulted. The Ottoman archives were also examined during the making of the film, and to make it more captivating for the audience, we shot the film as a docudrama. We’re actually speaking about a film that is 60–70 percent cinema and 30 percent documentary.” Emphasising that every detailed covered by the film is true, Ağırbaş said, “I would like to express my infinite tanks to Bülent Turan, Group Deputy Chairman and Deputy from Çanakkale of the AK Party, who has stood by us since the very first day I spoke to him about this film with great enthusiasm. I would like to thank Minister Nuri Ersoy and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for their support of this film, as well as our main sponsors Nurol Holding and TÜMAD Madencilik for giving us the necessary means to shoot this film.”
