Having the longest crest and the largest concrete-covered frontageis of the world, located within the borders of Mardin and Şırnak, the fourth biggest dam of Turkey due to its power generation capacity, Ilısu Dam will be a life line for the region. The construction of the Ilısu Dam and Powerplant has commenced 10 years ago on the Tigris River and now it is about to be finished. Due to its volume coming just after the Atatürk Dam, Ilısu will annually generate 4 billion 120 million kilowatt-hour power, 1 billion Turkish Liras in value. The dam will be put into service within 2017 and will provide employment for 4000 people .
