The caissons on which the footings of Izmit Gulf Crossing Bridge, which will reduce the passage between Istanbul to Yalova to 6 minutes, were launched to the sea in 350 metres off-shore. Each caisson prepared for the bridge which is the second biggest in Europe and fourth biggest in the World was designed to be 25 thousand tonnes, and their construction will continue at the sea. The caissons were launched to the sea during the ceremony in which the Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yıldırım participated and these caissons will be taken about 40 meters down at the sea. The caissons that are about the size of 16 basketball courts will be sunk to the bottom of the sea in 6 months.
