The towers are completed at the 4th longest bridge of the world with 1500 meters mid-span. The construction is also expected to be completed by the end of the year… The towers are completed in İzmit Bay Crossing Bridge construction, which is the most important section of Gebze – Orhangazi – İzmir Highway Project that shall decrease Istanbul – İzmir highway trip to 3,5 hours.. The bridge, which is planned to have a total length of 2.682 meters and designed to have a mid-span of 1500 meters shall be the 4th biggest bridge of the world. The tower height of the bridge shall be 254 meters and it shall serve with total 6 lanes, 3 lanes being in each direction with an additional service lane. The bay crossing, which currently takes 70 minutes by highway and 60 minutes by ferryboat, shall decrease to 6 minutes upon completion of the project, where non – stop works are ongoing for 24 hours with 1300 employees. 35 USD plus VAT (Approx. 90 Lira) shall be paid as bridge toll for İzmit Bay Crossing Bridge, which is expected to be completed at the end of this year and which is realized with an investment of 1.1 billion USD. According to the information conveyed, stringing of the messenger cable is started for the main cable that shall carry the decks on which vehicles shall pass and thus the two sides are meeting for the first time. The works for joining the decks shall be started when the installation of the main cable is completed. The project covers 433 kilometers, out of which 384 kilometers is the highway 43 kilometers is the connection roads. In the project, 6 viaducts out of the total 14 have been completed and the bridge towers each reaching to a height of 254 meters are manufactures by welding 88 steel blocks to each other. The weight of each of these 88 blocks varied between 170 to 350 tons.
