We learn from Hasan Yücel, the Director General of TÜMAD Madencilik, that the “Kestanelik Project” is in progress and will increase its contributions to the region. During our conversation, in which we spoke about the project, the environment and the economy, Yücel said: “As you know, our project is in practice, and we have started to produce gold and silver. There have been some setbacks regarding landscaping due to the winter conditions, but the landscaping works are due to be completed in May. As planned, our social and environmental awareness continues unabated. There have been investments of approximately 500 million TL, and our facility has the best standards in the world in terms of waste management. Let me put it this way. In the United States, 50 Ppm cyanide is left in waste, and the legal limit in Turkey is 10 Ppm. We promised 2 Ppm here, but in our recent measurements we have produced waste with under 1 Ppm. As you know, the waste mentioned is solid waste as we do not have a dam for liquid wastes. We carry out our cooling processes using a Filter Press, which is the best technology in the world. There is nothing to fear, it has been a quiet successful technology. On the other side, for the clay pits we opened, especially those opened during the construction stage, we have covered them, starting with the landscaping process. Now, we cover the pits we open once we are done with them. In other words, environmental planning will be carried out in parallel.”
