Mr. Murat Acu, Director General for the State Hydraulic Works (SHW) stated that Ilısu Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) will be the 3rd biggest dam of Turkey in terms of generator power with 233 megawatt capacity per unit after Ataturk and Karakaya dams. Acu said that yesterday they placed the rotor which is a part of the first generator of the 6 units of the dam and weighs 450 ton in total and continued his words as follows: “Ilısu Dam and HEPP project is one of the biggest water structures of the world and included in the 100-year vision of Turkey and also constitutes one of the two legs of the Southeast Anatolia Project (GAP). Ilısu Dam will be the second biggest dam of Turkey in terms of filling volume and the 4th biggest in terms of installed power. Ilısu Dam will generate, in average, 4,12 billion kilowatt hour energy per year with its power plant having installed power of 200 megawatt and it will contribute to the economy of Turkey TRY 1,3 billion annually.
