The fourth phase of the North Marmara Highway’s Kurtköy-Akyazı section was inaugurated with a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan through a live link-up. The opening of the 45 kilometer highway to traffic effectively connects the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Highway with the North Marmara Highway via Osmangazi Bridge, and the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge – which serves the transit transport traffic – with the Osmangazi Bridge.
The Istanbul Park Intersection and the Gebze OSB Intersection in this section of the highway has also entered into service, providing a connection between Kocaeli, a province that is home to Turkey’s most important organized industrial zones, and the North Marmara Highway in the Gebze District. It also constitutes a connection between Dilovası and the various settlements and industrial zones in its surroundings, and links all of them with the main highway. These road works have not only reduced travel times, but have also helped reduce the exhaust emissions released by vehicles into the environment and decrease maintenance and operation costs. This decrease in fuel and depreciation expenses represents added value for the national economy.
