88 percent of the Gebze-Orhangazi-İzmir Motorway, which will reduce the travel time between İstanbul and İzmir from 9 hours to 3.5 hours, has been completed. The highway is expected to save $650 million per year when fully in service. Approximately 98 km of highways and 16 km of connection roads were commissioned from the project, which has a 384-km highway and 49 km connection road including İzmit Bay Passage and connection roads whose construction works are mostly finished. 40 km of highway section between Altınova-Gemlik, 12.6 km between Gebze-Altınova (including Osmangazi Bridge), 20 km between Kemalpaşa intersection-İzmir and 25 km between Gemlik-Bursa was completed and commissioned, while works continue in the other sections.
