TÜMAD’s Lapseki and İvrindi Facilities have been awarded the “Zero Waste Certificate” by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. Organic and plant-based waste generated at the sites is converted into organic fertilizer at the Compost Production Facilities. This fertilizer is used to rehabilitate land impacted by mining activities and support the growth of local plant species. The compost undergoes regular quality control analyses, contributing to waste recycling and benefiting the ecosystem in an environmentally responsible manner.
Additionally, for World Environment Day on June 5, compost was distributed to local farmers, along with information about the benefits of organic farming. The sacks used for distribution were sourced from the Lapseki Umut Işığı Women’s Entrepreneurship Cooperative, supporting women’s employment and contributing to the local economy. These initiatives effectively combine environmental and social benefits, advancing the pursuit of sustainable development goals.
